Lungshan Temple This is the most famous temple located in the main district of Taipei. It was built in 1738 by settlers from Fujian. Taipei 101 Taipei 101 has become a landmark of Taipei upon its completion. It has been hailed as one of the Seven New Wonders of the World and Seven Wonders of Engineering ever since then. The building contains 101 floors above ground and 5 floor underground. Its postmodern design combines the Asian traditional and international modern elements which resemble bamboo rising from the earth. The two most notable engineering feats lie in its elevator and its abilities to withstand typhoon and earthquakes with its damper. The elevator in 101 is the world’s fastest elevators, which will zip the visitors up to 89th-floor observation deck in 37 seconds. It is also the only building in the world that exposes its massive gold dampers to public. Besides the observatory floor on the top on the building, one may also find great shopping experience inside 101. Taipei 101 was overtaken in height on July 21, 2007 by the Burji Dubai in Dubai, UAE, upon the completion of that building’s 141st floor; however, as of 2009, the title of the “world’s tallest building” will rests with Taipei 101 until Burj Dubai officially claim its completion.
